Project Overview
We recently wrapped up a mulching project for a homeowner in DeSoto, TX who wanted to improve the look and health of their front yard flower beds. The property had well-built beds with stone borders, but over time the old mulch had faded and decomposed. The client wanted a fresh, clean look that would also help keep weeds down and retain moisture during the hot Texas summer.
Customer Challenge
The homeowner had tried to maintain the garden beds themselves, but the thin layer of mulch wasn’t doing the job. Grass and weeds were growing through, and the bare spots made the landscape look neglected. With several large shrubs and flowering plants in the mix, the beds needed better coverage and water retention. Like many in DeSoto, they were also concerned about watering restrictions and wanted a low-maintenance solution that looked great year-round.
Our Solution
We began by clearing out all old mulch, weeds, and debris from the beds. Once the soil was clean and level, we applied a thick layer of dyed black hardwood mulch, which the homeowner selected for contrast against their stone border and siding. This mulch type is ideal for temperature regulation and soil moisture, especially in hot climates like DeSoto. We spread it evenly throughout the beds and built it up around the base of each plant without touching the stems or trunks.
We also took time to redefine the bed edges, giving everything a crisp, sharp outline. The new mulch made the bright green plants stand out, and the smooth finish tied the front yard together beautifully.
